Best Time to Visit Kashmir: A Month-by-Month Guide

Kashmir is not one season. It is four different holidays wearing the same name, and the month you pick decides which one you get.

The short answer

April for the tulip garden and blossom. June to August for green meadows and the full gondola. September and October for chinar gold and the saffron harvest. December to February for snow and skiing in Gulmarg. If you want one week that works for almost anything, come in the last week of May or the first three weeks of September.

What each month actually feels like

The mistake most people make

Booking August because it is when everyone has leave. August in Kashmir is warm, green and perfectly pleasant, but it is also the busiest and most expensive month, and the meadows are at their least distinctive — the same green you can find in a dozen hill stations. Move your dates two weeks into September and the valley looks better, costs less, and the queue for the gondola is half the length.

If you are combining Kashmir with Ladakh

Ladakh is a short season: roughly June to early October, with the Srinagar–Leh highway usually open from late May and Zoji La closing with the first heavy snow. A two-week trip that covers both needs to sit between mid-June and mid-September. Outside that window you are choosing one or the other.

What we would do

If you have flexibility, tell us the two or three weeks you can travel and let us pick the month. That single decision does more for your trip than any hotel upgrade — and it is the one thing most travellers decide before they ask anyone for advice.
